So, we’ve got quite a bit of news to share with you! First and foremost, the release for the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. will be October 3rd. The reason for the delay is the vast amount of resources necessary to craft a dual release such as this.
In addition to this news, we have two new challengers!
Palutena (not thrilled about that little “Anything an angel can do a goddess can do better” line…) and
and Pac Man!
Now, let’s talk gameplay.
One of the new features is combat customization. Think of this like a more advanced version of selecting your groove in a Capcom crossover fighting game. There’s still the traditional up, down, left and right special moves, but now there’s three in every category. You’ll be given the option of customizing your warrior with one of those three moves, giving you the ability to truly make your fighter your own.
I am exceedingly excited about this new feature. The only downside is that you can’t use your custom fighter against anyone who isn’t local or on your friends list, which kind of defeats the purpose I feel. This was stated as being a decision made in order to provide a sense of balance, but…yeah…
Another new feature is customizable equipment. You can find the equipment in both the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game, though it’s easier to find said equipment on the new “not story mode” for the 3DS. This equipment will allow you to do things like equip high power gloves, which will allow you to hit harder but force you to move slower.
Each character can have up to three pieces of equipment attached at any given time.
I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely looking forward to this new, more tactical Smash Bros. I just hope they think to add a new mode that will give you the option to play using custom characters against strangers if you so choose.
