Mortal Kombat X (Pronounced Ex as Ed Boon confirmed on his twitter earlier today) looks just…so…bloody phenomenal that I can barely wait for 2015! What was even more exciting is a lot of that looked in engine.
So, what can we discern? Maybe Sub-Zero isn’t a cyborg anymore, which would make me happy, but maybe not. Ed Boon confirmed earlier today that the placement of X is “complicated”, stating that it is both a continuation of MK9 as well as a separate story.
Boon teased that more footage will be shown at E3, including new characters, two of which have dethroned Scorpion as his favorite. Which, by the way, Boon’s Scorpion love has gotta be the only reason my main man Sub didn’t win that fight.
In addition, it looks like we can look forward to a more dynamic combat engine involving using the environment similar to Injustice, picking up weapons in the background mid combo, and turning the arena into a weapon as well.
Mortal Kombat X is slated for a 2015 release and appears to so far be planned for PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. If NetherRealm Studio’s previous track record is any indicator, we can expect an ultimate edition to launch on PC and PS Vita sometime after.
As an aside, I would not mind more hip hop finding its way into fighting games.
